Donetsk National Medical University of Maxim Gorky “DonNMU” is the best and the largest medical university of the former USSR. DonNMU is counted as one of the best medical school in Ukraine.The University is known as DonNMU and it’s the abbreviated name of Donetsk National Medical University.
Donetsk National Medical University was established in 1930 as M. Gorky Donetsk Medical Institute. In 1994 DSNMU was given the status of University and in 2007 DonNMU has got the status of National Medical University .

Donetsk National Medical University “DonNMU” is listed in the medical directories of World Health Organization (WHO) and I-Med Schools.

Due to the high quality of students training and comparatively low tuition fees DonNMU is one of the most attractive Ukrainian Medical Universities for foreigners Today more than 15000 students are studying at eight faculties of Donetsk National Medical University “DonNMU”. Donetsk National Medical University “DonNMU” has been recognized the best[citation needed] training-methodical centre among Ukrainian medical universities in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004,2005,2006,2007,2008,2009,2010,2011 and was awarded[citation needed] with certificates from Ukrainian Health Ministry and Ministry of Education.
